Backpack Meals

Volunteers shop and pack backpacks each week (as part of monthly team) to impact 50 poverty-level homeless families at Hawthorne Elementary with food for the weekend.

Focus: Serving in a team to pack backpacks based on weekly menu and pray as a group for those who will receive backpack

Volunteer skill needs: Able to lift up to 10 pounds

Celebrate Recovery

Weekly support and recovery group for those seeking freedom in Jesus’ name from anger, compulsive behaviors, unhealthy relationships, and addictions.

Focus: Personal growth & recovery

Volunteer skill needs: Desire to lead groups (after training) or care for children.

Christmas Giving Tree

Gift tags available to purchase gift items for children from our community partners. Click here for additional information.

Focus: Item donations and/or Cash donations; Personal shopping with families in need

Volunteer skill needs: Desire to connect with families as they “shop” for Christmas gifts

Heartbeat: Serving Wounded Warriors Gift-a-Card Program

As part of our Christmas Giving Tree, we include tags to purchase gift cards that are given to wounded warriors through this local ministry.

Focus: Item donation to bless local military organization serving wounded vets

Compassion Everett Counseling

Provide licensed, compassionate counselors who provide comfort and instruction from a faith-based perspective.

Focus: Personal growth & recovery

Community Work Projects

Work opportunities for the BCA community to bless our community partners with one-day service projects.

Focus: Practical projects to bless partner organizations

Volunteer skill needs: Ability to work in a women’s outreach project, landscaping project or painting project

Everett Gospel Mission Adopt-a-Room

Remodel and update a room at the Women’s Shelter for moms and their children to have a place to stay while going through the EGM housing transition program.

Focus: Practical projects to bless partner organizations

Volunteer skill needs: Ability to work in a remodeling/painting project or decorating

Everett Gospel Mission Chapel Service

Serve at a weekly chapel service at the Men’s Shelter with opportunities for prayer and connection.

Focus: Chapel service for men at homeless drop-in shelter

Volunteer skill needs: Heart to minister to and pray with homeless men

Everett Gospel Mission Sunday Meals

BCA buys food and sends teams to prepare and serve the Sunday meal after chapel service.

Focus: Serving as part of a team to prepare and serve a weekly meal

Volunteer skill needs: Heart to minister to and interact with homeless men 

Evergreen Baby Showers / Birthday Baskets

Prepare baskets of baby items and host a baby shower for new moms in recovery at Evergreen and also provide a birthday basket to each lady during her recovery.

Focus: Serving as part of a team to organize donations and attend baby shower/party

Volunteer skill needs: Heart to minister to women in recovery

Food Baskets

Dozens of volunteers assemble and hand out Thanksgiving and Christmas meal baskets to the BCA community and our school and community partner organizations.

Focus: Serving as part of a large assembly line team to assemble food baskets

Volunteer skill needs: Able to lift some heavy food items such as bags of flour and sugar

Food Pantry

Each week, BCA provides individual and family-sized bags of food with several meals provided.

Focus: Serving in a team to organize food donations and/or pack bags

Volunteer skill needs: Able to lift up to 15 pounds

Pregnancy Resource Center Diaper Drive

BCA partners with PRC to help stock their Baby Boutique with diapers and other supplies for young and first time moms with limited funds.

Focus: Item donations

Support Groups/Care Classes

Several groups and classes for reaching out to those in various life stages:  Grandparents Raising Grandchildren; Foster & Adopt support group; Grief Share; Surviving the Holiday; Divorce Care; Caregivers.

Focus: Facilitating groups

Volunteer skill needs: Personal experience with subject matter and desire to support others or work with leaders to assist with group or class

Planned Compassion Ministries – Fall 2019

FACILITY:

BCC Facility Remodel

A variety of jobs – those with experience or just willing to help – will be needed in construction and landscaping.

Focus: Preparing facility for opening

Volunteer skill needs: Skilled labor for framing, drywall, electrical, etc. and helpers with painting, setting up furniture, etc.

BCC Reception

First contact with those who call or come into the Bethany Compassion Center. 

Focus: First contact with public who come to BCC

Volunteer skill needs: Friendly welcoming personality as greeter

BCC Welcome Team

Meet individually with each guest to determine their needs and the resources available through the BCC and our community network and partners.  This will include advocating and following up with guests as appropriate.

Focus: Work one on one with those requesting help

Volunteer skill needs: Organized, patient, willing to advocate for those who need help navigating community assistance

BCC Administrative Support

Serve behind the scenes with a variety of administrative tasks, event support, etc.

Focus: Key role in behind the scenes assistance

Volunteer skill needs: Comfortable with using spreadsheets or organizing/assisting with events, etc.

BCC Child Care

As a trained child care volunteer, you will work with a variety of ages as needed when classes or support groups are happening.

Focus: Caring for children while parents are attending programs/classes at BCC

BCC Security

Serve as security when the BCC is open to the public.

Focus: Safety is an important priority for volunteers and those receiving services

Volunteer skill needs: Ability to be alert to security concerns and talk with those who might be in crisis

BCC Maintenance

Need regular maintenance volunteers to care for the BCC building.

Focus: Maintaining our facility and stewarding our resources

Volunteer skill needs: Skilled labor for specific projects (carpentry, electrical, etc.) and assistance with general maintenance such as painting, repairing door handles, etc.

NEW PROGRAMS:

After School Tutoring

Tutors needed in a variety of subjects for weekly shift.

Focus: Outreach program for local school children

Volunteer skill needs: Experience with subject matter and desire to work with children/youth

Life Skills Classes

New classes to help those on a development path.  These could include: Finances, Parenting, Conflict Resolution, Job Readiness.

Focus: Leading class

Volunteer skill needs: Experience with subject matter and desire to teach others

ESL Class

Curriculum based class for those looking to learn English.

Focus: Leading class

Ready-To-Eat Meals

Create easy to prepare meals for those who are homeless.

Focus: Serving in a team to organize food donations and prepare specialized food bags

Volunteer skill needs: Able to lift up to 10 pounds

Care Kits

Procure donations and put together toiletry kits that we can provide for those going through our Welcome Team members.

Focus: Finding donations and creating personal care item kits

Volunteer skill needs: Requesting item donations from businesses and putting together kits

Jail Ministry

Serve on our outreach team for visits to the Everett jail.

Focus: Outreach ministry to incarcerated men or women

Volunteer skill needs: Comfortable with entering jail environment and leading Bible study discussions

Children’s Hospital Outreach

Volunteer with the team that goes regularly to the Everett clinic of Seattle Children’s Hospital. 

Focus: Outreach to children with family members in clinic

Volunteer skill needs: Children’s ministry, crafts, and interaction with children
